Ethiopia

We work together with Sabahar, this is a Fairtrade company based in Ethiopia. The locals make products here like towels, shawls and placemats. All products are handmade from natural raw materials. The yarn is spun by hand, and after which it is painted with dyes that are taken from nature. For example the red union peel is used for coloring the yarn. The yarn is then hung in the garden to dry.

Looms are used that are operated by hand, maintaining the authentic way of weaving. Making all handmade products is a long and complicated process that requires attention to detail. Each product is made by the skilled hands of many different craftsmen working together. You help create jobs for the local community  when purchasing these products. Sabahar ensures good working conditions and a fair salary.
